North East Gallery

The land of castles, dramatic seascapes and history. From St Marys Lighthouse in Whitley Bay to Holy Island the coast in the North East is truly stunning.

This gallery contains quite a few images of Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Dunstanburgh castles because they fascinate me. Lindisfarne is the site of the first major Viking invasion in 793 when the Viking Age truly began on the British Isles and from here you can feel it.

Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

History and atmosphere comes alive like no other place at Bamburgh Castle. It has guarded the coast for over 1400 years and started as a wooden Anglo Saxon fort, brought to life by the TV Series “The Last Kingdom”. Standing on Bamburgh beach you really cannot help imagine sailing ships, Kings and Queens, and invading Vikings.

This particular morning I had been there all night in the camper van, listening to howling wind and rain on the roof. The next morning was so different as clouds raced across the sky and the sun rose over the Farne Islands.
