Admiral Von Tromp, Saltwick Bay Whitby

Saltwick Bay at low tide is an incredible place, had I ever visited another planet I would expect it to resemble this, with the rocky plateau, huge boulders scattered all over and the sea stack non as Black Nab rising up. It also has the wreck of the Admiral Von Tromp which sank in 1976 with the loss of two souls.

I was there with two friends photographing sunset when it got rather bizarre, two ladies who were out walking stopped for a chat. One lady got rather excited when she exclaimed that there was a frog in the pool around the wreck. A frog on the coast? My colleague Derek, doubting here said “round here we call them fish…”
