Glowing Shrooms

A project I started in 2020 during Covid, like many others when restrictions were relaxed enough to permit photography outside I decided to try doing something new to me, and locally to reduce travel. The result was a new found fondness for shooting fungi in the woods.

Using the Olympus 60mm macro lens I discovered that I really enjoyed shooting fungi and being creative with illumination. With various light sources I now have, including LED light panels and narrow beam torches, it is quite amazing how creative it can be. The effect I try to create is of fungi that mysteriously glows at twilight, as though they are playing and communicating with each other. It is very technical, using focus stacking and blending various sets of images together, but the end result is always fun.
