SQUARE FINE ART
A collection of square images from varied locations, some with powerful drama and mood, others expressing a minimal simplicity where space is as important as the subject.
The square 1:1 format has long been a classic for visual expression. It allows me to consider composition and space, both positive and negative in a way that creates harmony and balance in a restrictive area. The absence of colour allows the tone, the light and shadow, to reveal the essence and emotion of the scene to create a Fine Art image.

Featured – Old Pier, Lytham St Annes
The old pier end was separated from the main pier by a fire in 1974, and it is a very surreal looking structure.
At low tide the sea on this coast just about vanishes from sight, leaving an empty horizon. It was a windy day as it usually is walking this far out, with a sand-storm rushing over the surface 6″ high. You do get the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere.
The old pier structure itself, with the old gnarled wood and the towers on both ends each topped with a sphere, does make a very surreal scene perfectly suited to black and white and a square format.
