I offer a wide range of workshops for groups across a variety of locations around the UK from 1 day workshops to multi-day residential workshops with carefully selected accommodation. I choose locations I know well so that I can show you the best places and because understanding the light is important, I know where to go and when.

Peak District Workshop-OM System

  • Full Day FULLY BOOKED

A full day in the Peak District dedicated to Olympus an OM System gear. During this workshop we will explore and use all of the Computational Modes, explore settings , features and also Custom Modes.

We will have an abundance of locations we can visit, including Curbar Edge, Stanage Edge, Higger Tor, Wyming Brook and Padley Gorge, finishing the day with a sunset (fingers crossed).

Bempton Cliffs RSPB East Yorkshire

A day at Bempton Cliffs RSPB near Bridlington, East Yorkshire, where you will have the opportunity to capture images of many of the incredible birds at this sanctuary such as gannets, razorbills, guillemots and puffins.

I will show the camera settings needed and teach the techniques to capture fantastic image, plus each participant will receive a free mini-guide with tips on how to process high key images such as the one shown.

Long Exposure Minimal Photography

Create beautiful Fine Art Images using long exposure techniques. In this workshop we will explore how to shoot long exposures, what to look for for creating minimal images and discuss the techniques for processing the raw files. Each attendant will also receive a free copy of my extensive Black and White Minimal Photography eBook.

This workshop will be based on the East Yorkshire coast at Hornsea where there are plenty of opportunities to use water breakers each as in the image, giving you the skills you need to explore other subjects.

Lake District Workshop

The Lake District is one of our most beautiful areas and this workshop gives you the chance to explore and capture in camera many of the wonderful locations such as Blea Tarn, Windermere, Buttermere, Derwentwater and  Wast Water to name just a few. 

Based in Ambleside we will be ideally placed to get out early for sunrises and capture the best light.

Northumberland Castles Workshop

A chance to explore the stunning Northumberland coast and capture the magic of the castles, all within a short distance of each other.

This residential workshop gives us plenty of opportunities to shoot at sunset and sunrise and we will be visiting Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island (time subject to tides), as well as other bays and beaches in between.

Yorkshire Coast Workshop

A full day at the coast around Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire where we will explore the cliff top locations and the bays of Thornwick Bay, Selwicks Bay and North Landing. The workshop will focus on shooting techniques, composition, and exploring the use of shutter speeds to enhance motion in water clouds.

The day will finish with a cliff top location for sunset where we will hopefully get some wonderful light. Join me for a day of fun and learning…

NiSi Day – Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire

An event organised with NiSi, with a chance to learn about the use of filters for balancing exposure and creating long exposures.

This is not an advanced workshop, rather a chance for you to learn about filters with practical examples in the field, and a chance to try out filters for yourself. During this event I will teach you how to use filters, how they can benefit your photography, and give you some tips on technique and composition.

We will have around 3 hours in Selwicks Bay and finish for sunset on the cliffs looking over the sea arch known as the Drinking Dinosaur. Flamborough Head also has a lighthouse, some attendees may wish to try some twilight images…

OM System-Olympus Workshop

The Peak District

Join us for an Olympus/OM System dedicated 1 day workshop experience in the heart of the Peak District.

This workshop will give you the opportunity to learn from me as a recognised Olympus/OM-S trainer, exploring the features and settings of your camera, and use equipment that will be on hand with Claire, OM-S’s Lead Technical expert.

7 Days Northern Lights – Norway

A chance to capture the Northern Lights in Sagfjorden, this residential 7 night workshop will have a maximum of 6 participants with two workshop leaders, myself and my colleague Hendrik Zwart.

Accommodation is provided in a traditional Norwegian lakeside lodge, and all transportation is provided.

5 Days Portugal West Coast

5 days shooting along the Alentejo coastline, the west coast has stunning locations to offer, and is much quieter than the south coast.

Facing west, the coastline is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, and sunshine at sunset. We will explore locations such as Arrifana, Carrasquiera, Praia dos Buizinhos, and Zambujueira, and you will be able to enjoy local cuisine.

Run in conjunction with my collegues Mauricio and Hugo, we have the advantage of local knowledge and language at our disposal.

I am available for 1 To 1 Workshops as normal, please check out the details and contact me.

I am available for small group workshops. These are normally small groups of 2 people who are friends, couples, or slightly larger groups of 3-5 people who may for instance be from a Camera Club. Please contact me for more information and to arrange your workshop.

Phil really does know his stuff. I use an Olympus camera which he is an expert with, and showed me many of his tricks. I also use a Canon FF, and because he actually uses other systems himself he was able to assist me with both systems. His technical knowledge is outstanding, as is his photographic creativity. Myself and my son are both deaf, my son profoundly. Learning online can be hard, and it is slow, more so with a disability. I was sceptical about a workshop but Phil reassured me, and he was right.
