CONCLUSION
I do hope you found this guide useful and you are now more comfortable using Lightroom and Photoshop. I tried to cover the basics of a good workflow using Lightroom and then how you can benefit from Photoshop too, you have it so why not use it.
For further study I would suggest searching online and watch YouTube particularly for:
- Creating Selections in Photoshop
- Creating Masks in Lightroom and Photoshop
- Using Layers in Photoshop
APPS TO USE WITH PHOTOSHOP
There are many applications that can be used with PS (and LR) as plugins. A plugin means they can be launched inside PS as a seamless workflow, and a new layer can be created when needed. They come at a cost obviously.
- Topaz – A range of apps, Gigapixel is superb for resampling low res images to high res. AI Sharpen is very good if you just missed the mark on focus. Denoise is very good for reducing noise although I mostly just use LR now. These are separate apps and they are not cheap so test with a trial if needed.
- DXO Pure Raw – Superb for denoising, probably the best for wildlife photographers who use very high ISO. Not really needed I think for landscapes.
- Luminar – A very good app which can be used for raw processing but it is redundant with PS and LR. However it has a few wonderful filters that are fun to explore. Do not use the Sunray filter, everyone knows and you will get called out.
- Luminosity Masks – An advanced way to blend and edit images based on luminosity. They create masks similar to the Apply Image function but the range can be targeted specifically to tonal range. They take time to study and learn. Check out TK Luminosity Mask and Lumenzia. I would watch a few tutorials before using them.
I have a couple of other guides available too if you are interested:
